Design Perspective
Although solar shades provide a degree of daytime privacy they are not sold as privacy shades. As well as you can see out during the day, the outside will be able to see in at night.

Semi-Sheer Solar Shades (or Sun Control Shades) are a perfect solution to any room where direct sunlight may be an issue. When the shades are rolled down they cut out the direct sunlight while still letting light in the room. These are perfect for Florida rooms, sun porches, the office or virtually any room where you still want a view while cutting out the direct sunlight and heat. They are great for commercial applications too such as restaurants, shops or offices where a view is desired but sun control is needed.

QUICK TIPS:
Light colored fabrics reflect infrared heat, provide greater interior illumination but offer a poorer view out. Dark colored fabrics reduce the sun's glare, provide a greater view out but also absorb the sun's infrared heat rather than reflect it.

The semi-sheer varieties are rated on "Openness Factor" or OF for short. The openness of a fabric refers to the weave or mesh structure and determines the amount of heat and light that enters a room. A more open fabric (high OF %) allows more heat and light to penetrate through, while tighter meshes (low OF %) block more heat and light. Sheerweave fabrics are offered in a variety of openness factors to allow optimal light in commercial buildings or provide more privacy for such applications as hospitals and doctors offices.

Installation Perspective
Most of the roller shades we sell (except EcoGreen) come standard with the spring tension control. Completely cordless, you simply grasp the shade by its bottom hem and pull it down to whatever length you want. A gentle tug releases the spring's lock and allows the shade to be gently raised. Although installation is as simple as two small screws in each end bracket you will need to be sure that the brackets are level. If not, the shade will track to one side.

As an alternative all vendors offer a premium clutch lift mechanism which is a continuous loop chain, used to raise and lower the shade. The shade functions just like a regular roller shade but the fabric, tube and lifting mechanism are usually better quality. The brackets used for this type of lifting mechanism are simple L-shaped brackets with one being a 'left' and the other being a 'right' hand bracket. You will need to install with two screws in each of the two brackets. Be sure to hang those brackets level or shade may track to one side.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Regardless of the style of roller shade or lift mechanism selected, there are usually large side gaps (up to 3/4 of an inch each side). This is due to the fact that these types of shades generally like to track a little to one side or the other and so the fabric is made much thinner in width than the window opening so it doesn't rub the sides.

Most people have a thick enough window frame to cover these light gaps but if that’s not the case in your situation you can order the shade as an outside mount or us the shades as a kind of backdrop to curtains or drapes.
